Continue your journey off the beaten path by trekking the Buckhorn Loop Trail. This rugged trail will take you through sagebrush terraces, deep canyons and prairie dog towns. Be confronted with the diversity of fauna that continues to thrive in these distinct and somewhat harsh landscapes.
This sparsely populated region will give you a true sense of how vast the country is, while making a visit to an Indian Reservation on route. While flat most of the way, the payout is grand. National parks. Set out on a park run shuttle and witness a stunning array of peaks, glaciers, waterfalls and valleys on the Going-to-the-Sun Road. The Highline Trail is a real treat, full of stunning vistas, alpine meadows and an unforgettable cliff edge.
Experience the heart of the park at Many Glacier, an area full of glacier-topped mountains carved by their ice-age ancestors. Take the premier trail to Grinnell Glacier, an unforgettable hike complete with dense forest, turquoise alpine lakes and an iceberg filled lake at the top.
Keep on the watch for wildlife and a camera close at hand , from mountain goats to grizzly bears, be prepared to expect the unexpected! The scenery keeps coming on heavy as you depart Glacier for Kootenai National Forest. Surrounded by soaring peaks, the lake gets most of its water from snow melt. There is no better example of why Washington is called the Evergreen State than in the Northern Cascades.
From thick moss to leafy vegetation, we can thank the moisture of the region for the full spectrum of green hues. Although within a few hours reach of Seattle, the North Cascades get a surprisingly few amount of visitors. As an introduction to your time in the park, hike to Blue Lake for a new burst of color.
Dense old growth forests and vibrant water make this area as majestic as ever. A hike to on the Maple Loop is the quintessential Northern Cascades experience. With views of Lake Ann and beyond, every direction is exquisite. A cute pika, one of the two species in North America, may be tramping around collecting grass for their den. Even during summer, you may see beautiful wildflowers along with the presence of snow on the higher passes.
